A River for All Seasons

Jacques-Cartier River (Jacques-Cartier Provincial Park - Quebec)

The magnificent valley of the Jacques-Cartier, cut deep into the ancient bedrock of the Canadian Shield, is one that will stay with you a lifetime. The river, framed by forests of maple and birch, splits the spruce-covered plateau of the Laurentians. In the upper rreaches, within Jacques-Cartier Provincial Park, rapids and waterfalls are interspersed with placid sections. The lower reaches wind past historic villages where flour mills, fishing lodges, forts and manor houses remind us of a time when the river was a route for lumbermen, missionaries and settlers.
