One of the most
positive impacts of the Sable Offshore Energy Project is the employment
it will generate. As is part of the agreement between SOEP and the Provincial
and Federal governments, many of the jobs in the project will be open to
Nova Scotians first, then Canadians in general. During construction, 53%
of all labour will be performed by Nova Scotians, 30% by other Canadians,
and 17% by non-Canadians. In production, 96% of all labour will be supplied
by Nova Scotians. 2% will be supplied by other Canadians, and another 2%
by non-Canadians.
Non-Canadian
workers may only be used in specific circumstances, where qualified Canadian
workers are not available or other special circumstances exist. SOEP and
its contractors will work under the guidelines of the Department of Citizenship
and Immigration. Such hirings would take place with the safety and technical
requirements of the project foremost in mind.
Disadvantaged people will be afforded equal opportunity to attain
employment with the project, with due regard to safety considerations.
Below are pages which list employment opportunities
within the project, including details about each job. The jobs are segmented
into parts of the project. Each page is then divided into the two main employment
periods for the project: development, and production.
Listed with all jobs is a description of the training that will
likely be required. This information is not official, so to be absolutely
certain, you should contact a SOEP or Human Resources & Development
Canada office for official requirements. All the training programs listed
are provided by various community colleges, except for engineering, for
which a university degree is likely required. To see a listing of community
colleges in Canada, click here.
