Aitken
Crescent:
Is named after long time Regina
resident, Mr. Alex Aitken. Mr. Aitken
spent much of his life dedicated to the endeavours of the Regina Chamber
of Commerce, which included fundraising drives to improve the city’s
water supply and encouraging industrial and downtown development in Regina.
Mr. Aitken
came to Regina in 1929 and started “Regina Florists”. Four
years later he was made secretary of the Regina Board of Trade and later
the Board’s manager in 1935. Alex Aitken remained
the Board’s manager until 1946.
Mr. Alex Aitken’s
service to Regina included many years of service with the Regina Exhibition
Board of Directors including taking on the role of its President in 1957
until 1958. Alex Aitken was also the President of the
Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada in 1957 and one of the founders
of the Regina Community Chest. |
