Blakeney Drive:

Is named after The Honourable Allan Emrys Blakeney, Premier of Saskatchewan from 1971 to 1982 and the Leader of the Official Opposition until 1987.

Allan Blakeney became the secretary to Saskatchewan’s Crown Corporations in 1950. In 1958 he left the civil service to practice law and actively pursue his interest in politics. Allan Blakeney was first elected to the Provincial Legislature in 1960.

During his time with the CCF government he served in several cabinet positions including education, treasury and health. Allen Blakeney was elected leader of the NDP in 1970. After winning the 1971 provincial election Blakeney and his party remained in power until 1982.
