Broder Street:

George Broder was born in Ireland, 1855. Mr. Broder came to the North West Territories in 1883 and settled in the Last Mountain Lake area. While freighting supplies to Government forces during the North-West Rebellion of 1885 he was captured by the Métis and held prisoner for three weeks.

In 1886 George Broder moved to Regina where he operated a dairy farm on the land presently known as Broder’s Annex. Convinced that Regina would one day become a major centre, Broder invested in land lots that he later improved and resold. One of his first properties was the Allan Theatre in Regina, Saskatchewan.

In 1911 Mr. Broder donated four lots of land on the corner of Winnipeg Street and Fourteenth Avenue to the Anglican Church, on which stands the St. Matthew’s Church of present day.
