Is named for the 9th
Duke of Devonshire, Sir Victor Christian William Cavendish, Governor
General of Canada from 1912 to 1916. Cavendish was first
elected to the British House of Commons in 1891. On his term as Canada's
Governor General he traveled the country from coast to coast, taking a
special interest in agriculture. When he returned to Britain he was appointed
the Secretary of State for the Colonies. |
