Lloyd
Bay and Crescent:
Named after Mr. Woodrow
S. Lloyd, Saskatchewan’s ninth Premier who served from
1961 to 1964. Mr. Lloyd was first elected in 1944 and
represented the constituency of Biggar, Saskatchewan. At the age of 30
he was appointed Minister of Education in the Co-operative Commonwealth
Federation (CCF) Government, making him the youngest Cabinet Minister
of the time. During his time in office Woodrow Lloyd
instituted a wide number of reforms and innovations to Saskatchewan’s
education system. He became the Leader of the CFF in 1962 and later the
Leader of the Official Opposition in 1964. Lloyd remained
at the Legislative Assembly until his retirement in 1971.
Woodrow S. Lloyd
died in 1972 while stationed in Seoul, South Korea as the resident representative
of the United Nations Development Program. |
