McTavish Street:

Is dedicated to John H. McTavish, land commissioner with the Canadian Pacific Railway. It was McTavish who lead the struggle with Lieutenant Governor Edgar Dewdney as to where Regina’s public buildings would be located. Regina's rail station was eventually located two miles east of section 26 on an area of land owned by a syndicate of owners of which Edgar Dewdney was a member.

For a brief time there would be two settlement sites for Regina. One near the "Pile of Bones" creek and the other clustered around the newly built rail station. The station, situated just north of the tracks at Broad Street, was a small portable building that eventually became the centre of commerce for the community. Eventually those settlers who had established their claim along the creek joined the more centrally located site.
