Rink Avenue:

Cornelius Rink was Regina's mayor from 1935 to 1935. Rink fought against Queen Victoria’s troops in the Boer War from 1899 to 1902. Ironically he was later decorated by Queen Victoria’s Grandson, King George V in 1935, he was the mayor of Regina and host to His Majesty in celebration of the 25th year of King George V’s reign. Cornelius Rink held the distinction of being the only Boer holding membership in the Regina Branch of the Boer War Veteran’s Association.

Cornelius Rink served three terms as a Regina alderman, covering seven years in office. He first ran for mayor in 1914. He campaigned on the principles of “economy and democracy”. During the campaign Rink claimed that:

“The mayor’s office door is so seldom open that the hinges are rusty.”
