St. John (Harbour from Fort Howe)

St. John has been called the "Liverpool of Canada." It is one of the leading ship-owning ports of the British Empire. The harbour is ample and deep, generally well-filled with shipping, and lined with busy wharves and mills. It is kept free from ice by the high tides of the Bay of Fundy and the sweeping current of the St. John River.
