"The Camosun", a monthly publication by the students of Victoria College, contained essays, editorials, fiction, poems, society news, sports and jokes. The contents of the first edition published in January of 1906 featured: an introduction to the name Camosun and the aims of the magazine, A Christmas Chain, A Christmas Eve in the Klondike by O. Grant, a letter to the Editor signed "School Rights", The Persecution of the Jews - A Plea for Shylock by Marion W. Hanna, an essay on Shakespeare's Portia by Marie Louise Belyea, Society and Personal, History of the paper's start, a poem "Christmas" by Margaret I. Gladstone, a poem "On First Experimenting with Chlorine" by Spokeshave the Second, Sports, and With the Funny Man.
On both covers students were told to "patronize your advertizers" and "Pupils: Patronize those who patronize you." Sponsoring the paper with advertisements are companies such as Finch and Finch Glove Bonds, Pichon & Lenfesty Gunsmiths (Guns, Ammunition, Fishing Tackle, Cutlery and all kinds Sporting Goods), Lion Brand Suits and Knickers for School Boys at W.G. Cameron, Fountain Pens at Pope Stationary Co., Perfumes and Sachets at J.L. White & Co., M.W. Waitt's Hockey Sticks and Folios of Songs or Music, as well as advertisements for sweets, drugstores, butchers, and shoes.
