Artist's
Statement
From
the beginning my work has addressed the interior presentation of
reality. For a number of years, I created autobiographical images
solely in the austere realm of black and white. I frequently utilized
distortion to give the impression of what something "felt"
like rather than simply what it
represented. My images have now evolved towards a more collective
expression of the subconscious.
I have recognized that my dreams are not different from those of
other cultures and deal fundamentally with timeless themes. I am
interested in comparative mythology and dealing with rites of passage
and the
stage of life.
I appreciate that my images are read differently depending on the
accent of the viewer, where they recognize themselves and the role
that they are in.
One of my main preoccupations has to do with duality. The nature
of our life experiences has to do with opposites: light/dark, interior/exterior,
woman/man, life/death, good/evil. I attempt to balance this duality,
by presenting both as aspects on one principle and in this way,
transcend the duality. My work is a reflection on the passional
experience of life.
