The Task
of mourning, 1995
Neutral Ground, Regina, Saskatchewan. Five manipulated photographic
transfers using an identical negative of a Parisian mausoleum interior
mounted in canvas covered wooden crates, Tibetan singing bowls,
hand made books with their pages left blank, vinyl text listing
normative practices with Jewish grieving ritual mounted on the wall
(each letter measuring 3" high), and books on the mourning customs
in Jewish culture and the social implications of trauma and abuse
from domestic violence to political terror, shelf and chair. People
were actively encouraged to make the bowls sing and spent time reading
from the books.
