Born in Montreal, Quebec, this glass artist was trained at the Centre des métiers du verre du Québec (Montreal), where, following her studies, she was a member of Fusion, a hot glass transition studio, for 2 years.

In 1996, Johanne Boivin received a grant from the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec (Quebec Arts Council) and, in 1993, received a summer residency scholarship at the Glass Studio at Harbour front, in Toronto, Ontario.

She has participated in many group exhibitions, namely in the Biennale canadienne du verre, held at the Marché Bonsecours, in Montreal, in May 1996 and the Salon des métiers d' art du Québec, in Montreal, in 1993, 1994 and 1995. Johanne Boivin is a member of the Conseil des métiers d'art du Québec.
