Artist's
Statement:
My work is a pictorial diary of whom and what I see and the space
in which I live. I start with a thought, an image or a model. It
always changes. It is a process of problem solving. One stage leads
me on to the next. It is part thought out and intellectualized -
it is part pure expressionism. I paint and print on papers that
are sensuous to touch and allow me to rip, tear and rearrange images.
I make collages with prints, paintings, drawings and photographs.
I work with materials that allow for energetic marks - thick paints,
pastels, charcoal, oil sticks, spatulas, big brushes - and, most
important, color. The layers and juxtaposition of image and color
is what my work is about. To me, the excitement comes with the discovery
of a new level of expression of experience, where the image, the
color, the mark and the idea fuse into one, creating a new completeness.
