Vancouver-born
artist Margaret Lawther is active both on the West Coast and in
Montreal. Her photo-based work references the human body through
corporeal fragmentation, electronic manipulation and the incorporation
of
mannequins. Her art focuses on the problematic of rendering pain
-- physically and psychically. "How do you articulate pain
visually or through
language," the artist asked in a recent interview. Her concern
with pain and the communication thereof gives her work an uncanny
dimension that attracts, unsettles and confronts viewers. She has
shown across Canada, most recently at Galerie Lilian Rodriguez (by
whom she is represented), and is included in private and public
collections in Europe and North America.
