Cultivating the land, 1991

Accompanying this installation is a story which recalls how my parents stood up to the neighbors who plotted against us when we moved into a non-Chinese neighbourhood in Vancouver in 1969. It is a story about tolerance and hope in the face of adversity. Now, twenty-seven years later, these same neighbors bring vegetables from their garden to our family while my mother shares her knowledge of herbal medicine with them.
