Artist's Statement
Repetition is basically the heart and soul of my artistic work. I use it as a fundamental structure that sequences the art form. It often gives me the illusion of endless time. I live and work near the St. Laurence River in Quebec, Canada. The river and its environment inspires me greatly - birds, waves, seasons - all these elements create a certain rhythm and repetition like musical patterns. For several years, I have worked with the pattern of repetition on silkscreen fabrics, paper (cut and glued) and large-scaled canvases. With this virtual world that surrounds us, elements that are tangible are almost a healing process. With mosaic, no cheating is possible, we cannot bypass time. Mosaic is a long process, the hand takes, the hand chisels, the hand places… I have chosen above all mosaic as my art form because of its strength over time.
