Biographical Notes
The Honourable Marjory LeBreton, P.C.
Leader of the Government in the Senate
Marjory LeBreton was appointed to the Senate by Prime Minister Mulroney in
June 1993.
Since her appointment to the Senate, Ms. LeBreton has served as Chief
Opposition Whip and been a member of the Senate standing committees on Human
Rights, on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament, on Social Affairs,
Science and Technology, on Forestry and Agriculture, on Internal Economy, on
Banking and on the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Library of Parliament.
She has also been a member of the Special Senate Committee on the Pearson
Airport Agreements (1995) and on Security and Intelligence (1997).
Ms. LeBreton has been actively engaged in health care and mental health
issues and was the Deputy Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Social
Affairs, Science and Technology from 1999 – 2004. She is
also chair of the board of directors for Mothers Against Drunk Drivers - Canada
and a supporter of its national campaign.
Prior to her appointment as a Senator, Ms. LeBreton served the Progressive
Conservative Party of Canada in various capacities for more than 31 years. Among
the positions she held were leader's tour coordinator for the Rt. Honourable Joe
Clark, office supervisor and director of correspondence for the Honourable
Robert Stanfield and assistant to the Rt. Honourable John Diefenbaker.
Ms. LeBreton was born in Nepean, Ontario, in 1940. She is married to Douglas.
