Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate and
Government Whip announced today

OTTAWA
–The Honourable Marjory LeBreton, P.C., Leader of the Government in the
Senate, today announced the appointment of Senator Gerald Comeau as Deputy
Leader of the Government in the Senate, and Senator Terry Stratton as Government
Whip, effective immediately.
Senator Comeau represents the province of Nova Scotia in
the Senate of Canada. Prior to his appointment to the Senate in 1990, Senator
Comeau was elected to the House of Commons in 1984 as a member for South West
Nova, Nova Scotia. He has also been a member of Senate Standing Committees, and
most recently served as chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Fisheries and
Oceans.
Senator Stratton represents the Senatorial Division of Red
River in the province of Manitoba. He has previously served as Deputy Leader of
the Opposition in the Senate and as Opposition Whip. Senator Stratton was
appointed to the Senate of Canada in 1993.
