Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today the appointment of the
Honourable Steven W. Mahoney as Secretary of State (Selected Crown
Corporations). Mr. Mahoney will provide support to the Minister of
Transport, the Honourable David Collenette, in carrying out his responsibilities
for five Crown corporations: the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the
Canada Post Corporation, the Royal Canadian Mint, the Canada Lands Company
Limited and the Queens Quay West Land Corporation.

Steven Mahoney was first elected to Parliament in 1997 and re-elected in
2000. He served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister and then
to the Minister of Transport, assisting them in their responsibilities for
several Crown corporations. Prior to his election to the House of Commons, he
was a member of the Ontario Legislature, where he served as Parliamentary
Assistant to the Minister of International Trade and Technology and the Small
Business Advocate. From 1978 to 1987, he was a member of the Mississauga City
Council and the Peel Region Council.
Mr. Mahoney and his wife Katie have three sons and two grandsons.
