Statement by the Prime Minister on the attacks in Egypt
July 23, 2005
Ottawa, Ontario
Prime Minister Paul Martin today made the following statement:
"The terrorist bombings that took place early Saturday morning in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, are a deplorable act of violence against innocent civilians. I wish to express to President Hosni Mubarak, and to the people of Egypt and all nations who have lost loved ones, the sympathy of Canada and Canadians.
"This is another horrific reminder of the depraved determination of those who use murder as a tool to further their political ends. Canadians raise their voices with those who condemn these acts of terror, and against those who value human life less than their own extreme beliefs.
"Make no mistake, this is not a clash of cultures or of faiths. It is a struggle between those who choose terrorism and violence and those who advocate tolerance and reason-no matter where they live, no matter what religion they practise."
