 Summit of the Americas 2001

Web video message - December 2001

2001 has been a year of great sadness. But also of historic resolve.

This Holiday Season ... we can also reflect on how a year of adversity...has reaffirmed the true meaning of friendship and family.

I have been deeply moved by the way that Canadians...reached out to our American friends...in their time of great sadness and need.

With the way that homes...and hearts...were opened to stranded air passengers.

With the presence of 100,000 Canadians on Parliament Hill...expressing endless solidarity .

The Holiday Season is also a time...when the absence of family is felt most keenly.

So I ask each of you to take a moment... to remember the families of the brave Canadians... who have joined the international campaign against terrorism.

It has been a year we will never forget.

Of sorrow and shock. But also of pride at how we have responded as a nation.

Aline joins me in wishing each of you...a happy..safe and healthy Holiday Season.
