STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER

July 15, 2000
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today expressed his deep sadness at the news of the deadly tornado that touched down at the Green Acres campground, Pine Lake, Alberta:

"It is with great shock and sadness that I learned of the devastation caused by this tornado. While beyond our ability to comprehend, such random tragedies always remind us how precious and fragile life is. Though it can only be a small consolation, my heart goes out to all those who lost family and loved ones, as well as to those who suffered injuries or damages. I hope that they can find courage and strength in the knowledge that they are in the thoughts and prayers of all their fellow Canadians.

Aline joins me in extending our deepest sympathies to the friends and families of the victims, and in offering our most sincere wishes for a full and speedy recovery to those who were injured."
