PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF ASSOCIATE CHIEF JUSTICE OF ONTARIO

Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today the appointment of the Honourable Dennis O'Connor, of the Ontario Court of Appeal, as Associate Chief Justice of Ontario. He replaces the Honourable C.A. Osbourne who resigned from that position.

Associate Chief Justice O'Connor received a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1964 and was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1966. A former litigator, law professor and magistrate of Yukon Territory, he was appointed to the Ontario Court of Appeal in 1998.

This appointment is effective immediately.
