PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF SENIOR ASSOCIATE CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE QUEBEC SUPERIOR COURT

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today the appointment of the Honourable Robert Pidgeon, of the Quebec Court of Appeal, as Senior Associate Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Quebec. He replaces the Honourable R.W. Dionne, who resigned from that position effective November 1st, 2001.

Senior Associate Chief Justice Pidgeon received a Licentiate in Laws from Laval University and was called to the Bar of Quebec in 1970. Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court of Quebec (Rimouski) in 1989, he was in private practice in the Districts of Gaspé, Bonaventure and Rimouski. In 1997, he was appointed to the Quebec Court of Appeal.

This appointment is effective November 1st, 2001.
