PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES NEW CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE BRITISH COLUMBIA COURT OF APPEAL

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of the Honourable Lance S.G. Finch of the British Columbia Court of Appeal as Chief Justice of the British Columbia Court of Appeal. He replaces the Honourable A. McEachern who retired on May 20, 2001.

Chief Justice Finch received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia in 1962 and was called to the Bar of British Columbia the following year. Prior to his appointment to the British Columbia Supreme Court in 1983, Chief Justice Finch practised with the Vancouver firm of Guild, Yule. In 1993, Chief Justice Finch was appointed to the British Columbia Court of Appeal.

This appointment is effective immediately.
