Statement by the Prime Minister

May 24, 2000
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today expressed his deep sadness at the news of the death of E. Davie Fulton:

"Canada has lost one its most distinguished and able jurists and public figures. A Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister from British Columbia, Mr. Fulton lent his name to the Fulton-Favreau formula which set out to patriate our Constitution. In a stellar career that encompassed both politics and the law, Mr. Fulton dedicated his considerable intellectual gifts to the principles of justice and to the betterment of Canada.

Aline joins me in extending our deepest condolences to the family of E. Davie Fulton and to the many people whose lives were touched by this unique gentleman, jurist, and scholar."
