STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER

July 28, 2003
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien expressed the condolences of all Canadians following the passing of Bob Hope:

"Bob Hope was an entertainer of the highest calibre. A gifted radio, television and film actor, Mr. Hope made it his mission to perform for military personnel on active duty. Especially during World War II and the Korean War, his comedy routines brightened the lives of young Canadians serving in our armed forces overseas. Bob Hope was a generous man, a unique talent, and a kind soul. He will be missed.

Aline joins me in our expression of sympathy to his family and friends. Our prayers are with you during this difficult time."
