STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER

June 16, 2003
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien expressed the condolences all Canadians following the passing of Pierre Bourgault:

"A committed citizen, communicator and gifted speaker, Pierre Bourgault devoted his talents to the causes he embraced and defended over many years. While we may have had differences over the question of Quebec's place in Canada, I respectfully honour his contribution to the public debate, a contribution marked notably by his unwavering convictions.

Aline joins me in our expression of deepest sympathy to his family and friends. Our prayers are with you during this difficult time."
