STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER

February 4, 2003
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien issued the following statement following the news of drowning off the northeastern coast of Newfoundland:

"It is with a very heavy heart that I learned of the tragic drowning of five hunters from Musgrave Harbour in Newfoundland. It is a huge loss for this small community and for one family, in particular. Such tragedies remind us of the unforgiving power of the sea.

Aline joins me in expressing our deepest sympathy to the victims' families and friends. We also extend our warmest thanks to the rescuers of the lone survivor who reacted so ably and prevented further tragedy."
