STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER

February 5, 2001
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today expressed his sadness at the news of the sudden death of former Provencher Member of Parliament David Iftody:

"I was stunned to learn of David Iftody’s death. He was a fine parliamentarian and a dedicated and creative Member of Parliament. With David around you never had any doubt or uncertainty as to the views of the people of Provencher on any issue. He went about his duties with extraordinary energy and enthusiasm, which makes his death at such a young age so difficult to comprehend. He will be greatly missed by the many friends he made on all sides of the House.

Aline joins me in extending our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of David Iftody."
