PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES VISIT OF KING ABDULLAH BIN AL-HUSSEIN OF JORDAN

September 8, 2000
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Chrétien today announced that His Majesty King Abdullah Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan will conduct a working visit to Ottawa on September 11-12, 2000. The King will be accompanied by a high level delegation which includes Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein, Prime Minister Ali Abu Ragheb, Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court Dr Fayez Tarawneh, Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Halaiqa and Foreign Affairs Minister Abdul Ilah Khatib.

"His Majesty’s visit to Ottawa, so soon after my own visit to Jordan this past April, is evidence of the growing relations between our two countries," said the Prime Minister. "It is particularly satisfying to note the Jordanian Government’s interest in Canada’s world class information technology sector as the Kingdom expands its infrastructure and modernizes its economy."

During the visit, His Majesty will meet Prime Minister Chrétien, Deputy Prime Minister Herb Gray and Minister of Industry John Manley. Discussions between government officials will focus on bilateral trade and the Middle East Peace Process. King Abdullah will also meet with representatives of Canada’s information technology sector.
