Terrorist Attack in Israel

February 25, 1996
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien strongly condemned today's terrorist attack in Israel, which claimed the lives of at least 25 people.

"Canadians are appalled by this senseless act of cowardice," said the Prime Minister. "There can be no justification for the taking of innocent lives."

In a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres, Mr. Chrétien offered his deepest sympathy to the families of the victims. On behalf of the Canadian Government, he expressed strong support for the Government of Israel in its efforts to pursue peace.
