Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien expressed outrage at the March 3 bus bombing in Jerusalem, which claimed the lives of nineteen people and injured many more.

Mr. Chrétien extended his strong support to the Government of Israel. "I offer my heartfelt condolences and join with the people of Israel as they grieve for the victims of the latest terrorist attack," said Mr. Chrétien.

Mr. Chrétien also reiterated Canada's full support for the Middle East peace process and for the efforts of the Government of Israel and PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat to combat terrorism.
