Visit of Slovenian Prime Minister Drnovsek

May 7, 1996
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today that Dr. Janez Drnovsek, Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, will pay a working visit to Canada on May 8 and 9.

"This visit is one of a number of measures being taken to strengthen relations between Canada and Slovenia, a stable, prosperous country which affords some interesting market opportunities for Canadian expertise, " said Mr. Chrétien.

In Ottawa, Prime Minister Drnovsek will meet with Prime Minister Chrétien and with Foreign Affairs Minister Lloyd Axworthy. Their talks will concern security in Europe and bilateral relations, along with other matters of mutual interest.

Prime Minister Drnovsek will then travel to Toronto for a private visit.
