Tribute to George Hees

June 12, 1996
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today paid tribute to the late George Hees:

"I was saddened to learn of the death of George Hees, who was my colleague in the House of Commons for many years. He had a distinguished career in both business and politics, and also served his country with distinction in World War II.

George Hees was truly a gentleman -- a courtly and congenial man who was admired for his good humour and charm. He was also respected as a business leader who believed in the importance of public service. No one could ever doubt his commitment to his party, to Parliament, and to his country.

Aline and I extend our condolences to the family and friends of the late George Hees."
