Changes in the senior ranks of the Public Service

Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the following redeployments of senior personnel:

1. Margaret Bloodworth, currently Deputy Clerk of the Privy Council (Security and Intelligence, and Counsel), becomes Associate Deputy Minister of Transport, effective October 7, 1996.

2. Ian Bennett, currently Associate Deputy Minister of National Revenue, becomes Associate Deputy Minister of Finance, effective September 3, 1996.

3. Shirley Serafini, currently Associate Deputy Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, becomes Associate Deputy Minister of Industry, effective September 3, 1996.

4. Mario Dion, currently Associate Deputy Minister of Justice, becomes Deputy Clerk of the Privy Council and Counsel, effective October 7, 1996.

The Prime Minister also announced three Associate Deputy Minister appointments:

1. Marc Lafrenière, currently Acting Deputy Secretary (Intergovernmental Operations), Privy Council Office, becomes Associate Deputy Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

2. Alan Nymark, currently Assistant Deputy Minister, Industry and Science Policy, Industry Canada, becomes Associate Deputy Minister of Health.

3. Richard Thompson, currently Sector Head, Legal Operations, Department of Justice, becomes Associate Deputy Minister of Justice.

These appointments are effective September 3, 1996.
