Letter to Russian President Boris Yeltsin

November 5, 1996
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today sent the following letter of prompt recovery to Russian President Boris Yeltsin.

PMO Press Office: (613) 957-5555

Dear Mr. President:

My thoughts have been very much with you these past days as you prepared for your bypass operation. Your courage in facing this personal ordeal, while at the same time continuing to lead Russia with steady conviction, is testament to the dedication and vision that have earned you the trust and respect of the Russian people.

Aline and I are happy that the operation has been a success. Please accept our personal best wishes for a complete and speedy recovery. I look forward to seeing your hand firmly back on the tiller of the Russian Federation in the near future.

Yours sincerely,

ORIGINAL SIGNED BY PRIME MINISTER JEAN CHRÉTIEN

His Excellency Boris Yeltsin
President of the Russian Federation
Moscow, Russia
