President of Chile to visit Canada

November 13, 1996
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today that Eduardo Frei, President of Chile, will visit Canada from November 17 to 19. The President will be accompanied by a delegation of Chilean Ministers and business people.

"Our relations with Chile are strong and productive," said the Prime Minister. "This visit is an excellent opportunity to further develop our partnership on a variety of regional and international issues, and to continue work towards achieving a free trade accord."

Issues that the President will discuss with Prime Minister Chrétien include the benefits of increased trade and investment, the U.S. Helms-Burton Act, and greater hemispheric political and economic integration.

President Frei will also visit Toronto, where he will meet Ontario Premier Michael Harris and attend a business round table.
