Prime Minister Chrétien Pays Tribute to the Late Stanley Knowles

June 9, 1997
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today paid tribute to the late Stanley Knowles.

"I was deeply saddened today to learn of the passing of the Honourable Stanley Knowles, a truly legendary parliamentarian. It was my pleasure and privilege to have served in the House of Commons with him. I knew him to be a man of great integrity; a tireless advocate for his constituents with a passionate commitment to making Canada a better place for his fellow citizens. We shared a deep and abiding affection for the institution of Parliament. And I know I can speak on behalf of his parliamentary colleagues - past and present - when I say how sorely he will be missed."

Prime Minister Chrétien and Mrs. Chrétien extend their sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Stanley Knowles.
