Prime Minister responds to crash of Korean Air Lines jet

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today sent a message of condolence to South Korean President Kim Young Sam following news of the crash of a Korean Air Lines jet on the South Pacific island of Guam. On behalf of the Government and people of Canada, the Prime Minister extended his deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims.
More than two hundred people were aboard the Korean Air Lines jet, en route from Seoul, South Korea, that crashed and burned as it approached the airport in Guam.
The Prime Minister led a Team Canada mission to the Republic of Korea in January 1997 to enhance ties between Canada and South Korea, and to strengthen further the Special Partnership between the two countries that was declared in 1993 by Prime Minister Chrétien and President Kim.
