Holiday Message from the Prime Minister

December 12, 1997
Ottawa, Ontario

The following is the text of a holiday message to all Canadians from Prime Minister Jean Chrétien:

The Holiday Season is traditionally a time for hope. And this year finds Canadians feeling a renewed sense of optimism and pride.

In recent years, we have overcome historic challenges. Our economy has been restored and so has our confidence in the future. We have reminded ourselves what we can do as a nation when we work together.

As in all things, confidence builds new confidence. We have a new energy. A new resolve to roll up our sleeves and take on new challenges. To make sure no Canadian is left behind as we move ahead. And to ensure that Canada enters the new millennium as a strong, united and prosperous nation.

This is a time to celebrate. To savour our good fortune and to remember those who are less fortunate. To renew ties of family and friendship.

My family joins me in wishing you and yours a joyful Holiday Season.
