Team Canada '98 to Expand Market for Canadian Goods in Latin America

December 18, 1997
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today that Canada's 10 premiers, two territorial leaders and 470 representatives of 433 companies, educational institutions and municipalities will accompany him on Team Canada `98 to Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Chile.

"There has been enormous interest in Team Canada `98," said the Prime Minister. "I look forward to working with this outstanding delegation to spread the good word in Latin America that Canada is a great place to invest and do business."

The mission departs Ottawa on January 10, 1998, and will stop in Mexico City, Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Santiago, and then return to Ottawa on January 23.

The business delegation is composed of representatives from every region of Canada, and includes women and young entrepreneurs. Nearly three-quarters of the companies are small and medium-sized enterprises.
