Statement by the Prime Minister

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien issued this statement following the news today of the tragic train derailment near the town of Eschede, Germany:
On behalf of the Government and people of Canada, I extend our deepest sympathies to those who have lost family and loved ones in one of the worst train disasters in Germany's history. This terrible and sudden loss of life saddens us all. Our prayers and best wishes go out to those who were injured in this tragedy, and we hope for their speedy recovery.
