Statement By The Prime Minister

August 7, 1998
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today expressed the shock and anger of the Canadian people at the terrorist bombings at the American embassies in Nairobi, Kenya and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania:

"All Canadians are shocked and deeply saddened by the fact that so many innocent people have been killed or wounded in this heinous and cowardly attack. There is never any justification for such violence.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of those who died in this senseless outrage, and our prayers to the hundreds of people who have been injured. Canadian embassy personnel in the two capitals have offered their support and assistance to their American colleagues and local authorities."
