Prime Minister Announces New President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of Ronald Doering as President of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Mr. Doering has been the Executive Vice-President of the Agency since its creation in 1997. He succeeds Dr. Arthur Olson who retired from the Public Service at the end of June.
Prior to his appointment as Executive Vice-President of the Agency, Mr. Doering held the position of Executive Director, Office of Food Inspection Systems with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. In this position, he played a lead role in the process of change required to establish the Agency.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency was officially established by an Act of Parliament on April 1, 1997. The Agency was created to consolidate all federally-mandated food inspection and quarantine services formerly provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Health Canada, Industry Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
The Prime Minister took this opportunity to thank Dr. Olson for his outstanding leadership in establishing the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and to congratulate him on his long and distinguished career.
This appointment is effective immediately.
