French Prime Minister to visit Canada

November 18, 1998
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien announced today that Mr. Lionel Jospin, Prime Minister of France, has accepted his invitation to visit Canada from December 16 to 19. During this visit, Mr. Jospin will be accompanied by a ministerial and parliamentary delegation and a group of business leaders.

"Canada and France share many interests, and this visit will enable us to strengthen our transatlantic links and reinforce our partnership efforts on many economic issues," said Prime Minister Chrétien.

Prime Minister Jospin's visit is part of a series of reciprocal exchanges between Canada and France. Prime Minister Chrétien last visited France in January 1997.

On December 16 and 17 in Ottawa, Prime Minister Jospin will meet Prime Minister Chrétien and other members of the government to discuss a variety of bilateral issues as well as international questions of common interest.

Mr. Jospin will then travel to Toronto on December 17, and to Quebec City and Montreal between December 18 and December 19.
