Statement by the Prime Minister

December 11, 1998
Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien issued the following statement following the announcement of the death of Senator Peter Bosa:

"It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of our friend Senator Peter Bosa, after a brave fight against cancer.

After coming to Canada in 1948, he pursued an exemplary career, distinguishing himself by his deep commitment to our country and the Italian-Canadian community. A proud promoter of multiculturalism, he liked to say that this principle was the cornerstone of his belonging to Canada. His passing is a great loss for our Liberal caucus, for the Italian-Canadian community and for all of Canada.

Today, I wish to pay tribute to a senator who made substantial efforts to contribute to the well-being of his fellow citizens for over twenty years.

Aline joins me in offering our sincerest condolences to his wife Teresa and their children, Angela and Mark. Our thoughts and prayers are with them."
