Prime Minister Announces New President of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Ottawa, Ontario

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien today announced the appointment of Mr. Michael Horgan, Executive Vice-President and Associate Deputy Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency as President of the Agency. He succeeds Mr.David Nicholson who has resigned from the position effective March 31, 1999. Mr. Nicholson will continue to serve as Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs.

Prior to his appointment as Executive Vice-President and Associate Deputy Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Mr. Horgan was with the Privy Council Office where he held the positions of Assistant Secretary to the Cabinet (Priorities and Planning) and then Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet (Intergovernmental Policy).

This appointment is effective April 1, 1999.
